Film: A House for the Art - The Eccel Kreuzer Collection

In 2019, the Eccel Kreuzer Museum was opened in an old historic house in Bolzano. The collection comprises around 1,500 works by artists from South Tyrol, Tyrol and Trentino - but not only.

Hilde Tapfer and her husband Friedrich Eccel laid the foundation stone of today's collection as art-loving patrons. Their daughter Eva Eccel and her husband Josef Kreuzer continued to expand the collection and organised small exhibitions on the third floor of the house. The marriage broke up in the early 1990s, which meant that the Eccel House and part of the collection passed to Josef Kreuzer. When he died in 2017, he bequeathed the property together with the collection stored in it to the province of South Tyrol: it was the birth of today's museum.
The film tells of the Eccel family's passion for collecting and gives an insight into the history of the family business of the same name. A tour through the collection tells of the genesis of the museum as Josef Kreuzer conceived it. Conversations with companions, artists, gallery owners and art historians underline the importance of the family and the collection in the context of South Tyrolean modernism.
